Petersburg Cavaliers began the 2020 season on March 7, their fifth season in the East Coast Basketball League. They opened the new campaign at Petersburg High School with a 113-94 victory over the High Point Lycans.
The first quarter of the game was tightly contested with Elijah Moore scoring 13 quick points for the Cavaliers. Going into the halftime the Cavaliers were up 57-49 however, the High Point Lycans came out in the second half with a 13-4 run to take a 62-61 lead within the first five minutes of the third quarter. The game remained a one-point game going into the fourth quarter with the Cavaliers up 78-77 over the Lycans.

During the fourth quarter, Kevin Barnes and Gage Yesbeck caught fire for the Cavaliers with each scoring in the double digits (Barnes, 16 and Yesbeck 10) in the fourth. With the strong performance on offense and defense scoring 35 points and holding the Lycans to 17 points in the final quarter, the Cavaliers were able to pull away with the 19-point win.
Stand out performances for Petersburg included Elijah Moore (19 points, 19 rebounds and 7 assists) and Gage Yesbeck (22 points and 12 rebounds).
The next game for the Petersburg Cavaliers will be this Sunday at Virginia State University Daniels Gymnasium hosting the North Carolina Coyotes. Game time is schedule for 5:00 PM.
